We are pleased to invite you to the Blood That Connects Us Event. This is an evening of networking, food, education, and discussion focused on improving health outcomes for Black communities, including those affected by sickle cell and related blood disorders. The event is supported by the UCLH Red Cell Team and may be of particular interest to individuals receiving red cell exchange treatments, as well as patients, families, carers, healthcare professionals, and community organisations.
The evening will highlight two important research initiatives at UCLH:
• The Haem-Match Feasibility Study in partnership with NHS Blood and Transplant, exploring how genetic blood typing can improve transfusion safety and matching for people living with sickle cell disorder and related conditions.
• The NIHR BioResource: Improving Black Health Outcomes (IBHO) Programme, a national initiative working to improve representation in research and support more equitable healthcare outcomes for Black communities.
During the evening, there will be:
• Hot Caribbean food and drinks provided
• Short films and patient testimonials
• Opportunities to meet researchers and healthcare professionals
• Research information stalls
• Networking with patients, families, community leaders, and the wider community
• Opportunities to learn how to get involved in research and community advocacy
