Head and neck sarcomas are a group of tumours that require particularly careful management for the best results. Both soft tissue and bone tumours can arise, of a wide range of types, frequently needing complex combination treatments. This requires close working of sarcoma oncologists with head and neck surgeons. The sarcoma oncologists sub-specialising in head and neck sarcomas regularly attend the weekly head and neck MDT Meeting to discuss the large number of head and neck sarcomas treated.
Surgeons

My research interests include applications of “tissue engineering”. I am a founding member of the “Centre for Reconstructive Surgery” at University College London. I hold a Senior Lecturer post at the same Institution. I have joint research projects in the Nanotechnology Lab of UCL on “tissue engineered bio-scaffolding” aiming to replace defects of the head and neck with tissue–engineered based micro-vascular flap reconstruction.
I give lectures regularly nationally and internationally and hold the position of the Secretary General of the European Association for Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery (EACMFS).
I am a head and neck sarcoma surgeon. I treat bone and soft tissue sarcomas in both children and adults. I hold a medical and a dental degree. I specialised in oral and maxillofacial surgery from UZ Leuven, Belgium. I did a super specialisation in head and cancer ablative and reconstructive surgery from UCLH under Mr Nicholas Kalavrezos (2017-2021).
Head and Neck sarcomas are difficult to diagnose. Very often patients present with locally advanced or metastatic disease. My vision is to improve early diagnosis of head and neck sarcomas and their recurrences. I founded ‘icure’ (Integrated Craniofacial Ultra-rare disease REsearch) a research consortium, with a living biobank at UCL Cancer Institute that focuses exclusively on head and neck sarcomas.
As clinical associate professor at UCL, I teach on undergraduate and post-graduate programmes nationally and in the EU. I take on MSc students and provide surgical training and mentorship in a curated Clinical Fellowship programme at UCLH.

I run a diagnostic neck lump clinic and also see a large amount of voice pathology within this clinic.
I undertake parotid, submandibular and thyroid gland surgery as this compliments my Head and Neck practice well.
Oncologists

I developed an interest in sarcoma during my training and now specialise in the management of bone and soft tissue sarcomas as well as fibromatosis. I have a special interest in developing the use of advanced radiotherapy techniques for the treatment of sarcomas and to that end I am involved in research funded by the Bone Cancer Research Trust and Cancer Research UK. I have an interest in education and I am involved in teaching both medical students and specialty trainees.

I was educated and started my training in Internal Medicine in Greece. I also conducted my PhD at University of Ioannina in angiogenesis and proteolysis in cancer of unknown primary site. I completed my specialist training in Oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London during a 3 year fellowship. I followed an academical career in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece and I led the Medical Oncology Department during my last year of my stay there. In 2015 I was appointed as a Consultant Medical Oncologist at UCLH and I am exclusively treating patients with bone and soft tissue sarcomas with systemic treatment within the London Sarcoma Service.
I look after patients with tenosynovial giant cell tumours (TGCT) and lead on this pathway across the London Sarcoma Service. I am working towards setting up a dedicated clinic for TGCT patients who are considered for medical management. I have a strong interest in international and national clinical trials across multiple tumour types and more recently in sarcoma, acting as principal and co-investigator for a number of them. I was previously involved in early clinical trials, both in the UK and Greece, with novel agents, and have experience in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamic models.
I have published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals in clinical and translational research, and I regularly teach and lecture in the management of sarcomas. I also hold an honorary clinical senior lectureship contract with UCL and I contribute to the teaching of medical students. I am member of several scientific organisations including British Sarcoma Group, EORTC Soft Tissue and Bone Sarcoma Group, ESMO, ASCO, HeSMO etc.
Histopathologists
I am a
I am the clinical lead for the diagnostic pathology service for the London Sarcoma Service undertaking the NHS service work at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust. My research is based in the NHS Histopathology Department in Stanmore, and in the Paul O'Gorman Cancer Institute, Huntley Street, UCL.
Making a correct diagnosis is pivotal in deciding the best treatment for a patient. Cancer is caused by genetic alterations in cells and we can use these genetic changes to diagnose tumours accurately. Over the last 10 years, my research has focused on improving the way that we provide diagnoses for patients. In collaboration with my NHS colleagues we have translated this research into clinical practice and are using our findings every day in clinical practice.

Radiologists
I am a consultant radiologist (imaging doctor), specialising in imaging of the head and neck. My job involves interpreting MRI and CT scans of patients with sarcoma to determine how extensive the disease is to help the surgeons, oncologists and other professionals in the unit decide on the type of treatment to administer. I regularly perform ultrasound scans on patients with sarcoma, which helps to map disease. I also use ultrasound as a guide to performing biopsies that may be required in patients with sarcomas of the head and neck.
My training in radiology began at St. George's Hospital in London and I completed my radiology training at UCLH and the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals, also in London, after which I was appointed as a consultant.
I am heavily involved in training and education of junior radiologists and other doctors and I am the departmental clinical lead for MRI, facilitating the delivery of a safe and high quality MRI service for all patients across the hospital.
