Professional background
Dr Billy White is a consultant paediatrician at UCLH and specialises in diabetes, obesity and acute paediatrics.
Billy undertook his undergraduate degree at University of Bristol and his PhD at UCL. He undertook clinical training at St Mary’s, Great Ormond Street and UCL hospitals and undertook a sabbatical at the Joslin Diabetes Centre in Boston.
Billy was previously clinical lead (clinical director) of general and adolescent paediatrics at UCLH and now is lead consultant in the diabetes service.
Billy is actively involved in clinical research to improve care for children and young people, including clinical trials for diabetes immunotherapy (USTEKID and SAFEGUARD studies), obesity (STEP-TEENS, STEP-TEENS extension and REDEFINE-YOUNG), type 2 diabetes (LEGEND) and vaccines (HARMONIE).
Billy has a special interest in obesity and type 2 diabetes. He was the first lead of the National Type 2 Diabetes working group during which he co-led the first national paediatric type 2 diabetes guideline. He has published a Lancet review and chapter in Oxford Textbook of Endocrinology.
Billy enjoys teaching and lecturing. He was previously named a UCL top teacher and continues to train resident doctors.
